COMMISSION PURPOSE
The Madison Senior Citizen Commission was established in September of 1994 with a mission to foster the understanding, respect and involvement of senior citizens in the life of the community. It shall reach out to all Madison seniors to enhance their quality of life.
GOALS and OBJECTIVES
Provide direction in the development and implementation of programs and services for Madison Senior citizens. Continuously assess the needs of seniors and appropriately satisfy these needs. Work with community, regional and state agencies in developing and implementing plans for cooperative and comprehensive programs and services. Formulate and adopt rules, by-laws, and guidelines for the Department of Senior Services. Assist in annual budget preparation. Oversee expenditures and revenues.
COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP
The working Commission shall consist of nine members, appointed by the Board of Selectmen, for two year terms. A minimum of one-third of the membership shall consist of senior citizens. It shall oversee program goals and objectives.
MEETINGS
Commission meetings are held on the second I Wednesday of the month, 7:30 p.m., at the Depot Meeting Center. Meetings are open to the public. For information on Commission meetings, programs, or resources, call the Depot office.
THE DEPOT MEETING CENTER . . .
is Madison's senior center overseen by the Madison Senior Citizen Commission and supported by the Town of Madison budget. Programs and services available to all Madison senior citizens. No membership fee required-some programs/trips require a registration fee. The "Depot" senior center is a drop-in location for seniors. It offers access to socializing opportunities, services, programs, state entitlement programs, speakers, senior transportation, trips, classes, hot lunch program, and is an information and referral source.

NEWSLETTER
The senior center publishes a monthly newsletter, 'The Depot Express,' which is mailed free to registered Madison seniors. It provides information on state and local programs, hot lunch menus, calendar, lists of activities, programs, trips, and information on current legislative issues.
NOTARY SERVICES
Are available by appointment at the Depot.
HOT LUNCH PROGRAM
Daily. Menus are published in our monthly newsletter, meal reservation required 24 hours in advance. Suggested donation for meals is $2.00. Call the Nutrition Site at 245-5686 to reserve.
TRANSPORTATION
- Free to Madison senior citizens on a fixed route schedule
- Depot senior center-Daily, for activities, programs, and Hot Lunch.
- Tuesday-downtown-banks, Post Office, drug stores, library, hairdresser.
- Thursday-grocery shopping.
- To special events and out-of-town locations as needed. Required 24 hour notice of transportation need.
INCOME TAX FILING ASSISTANCE
Is held during tax season. IRS trained AARP volunteers are available by appointment to guide and assist with filing state and federal tax returns.
TRAINED VOLUNTEER COUNSELING
Medicare problems, questions, and filing and interpreting forms. Insurance questions on automobile, long-term care, and Medigap policies. Legal questions, problems, official paper work, help available from local attorneys (CT Bar Assoc. Program)
MUNICIPAL AGENT FOR THE ELDERLY
Under the State Department of Social Services guidelines, offers counseling services on elderly issues, local and state programs. Included are the following:
