AARP SAFE DRIVING COURSES 2008

The Guilford & Madison Senior Centers have created the Shoreline Guilford/Madison AARP Safe Driving Class offered to seniors to sharpen driving skills & enjoy a discount on auto insurance. State law mandates that people 62  & older receive a minimum of 5% discount upon completion of the two-day, 8-hour course.  No further classes held @ Guilford Community Center this year.  Classes held @ Madison Senior Center: August 11-12, 1:00-5:00 PM; September 8-9, 6:00-10:00 PM; October 6-7, 1:00-5:00 PM; November 3-4, 1:00-5:00 PM.  

Advance registration required: $10 per person by check made out to: AARP. Mail or drop-off your check prior to class. 
All classes must have 15 in attendance to proceed.

Gayle Melonson is our Line Dancing Instructor for Seniors & held @ the Memorial Town Hall. Pre-register @ the Depot or Beach & Recreation Department for any session, prior to start of class.
 
New sessions will be announced in the Fall!

TENNIS ANYONE?

The Beach & Recreation Department has organized a Senior Women’s Tennis Program for beginner to intermediate players (age 60 & over). The program sponsors evening tennis at the Town Campus. Doubles will play 6:00 PM on Tuesday evenings starting in June. To express interest in this program please call 245-5623 and place your name on the interest list.

The Recreator published by the Beach & Recreation Department is full of many activities! Try something new! Just to name a few…Senior Basketball! Senior Golf League!  Men Over 60 Softball League! Men’s & Women’s Tennis! Red Sox/Yankee Game! Stop by the Depot or Beach & Recreation Department for a copy of the Recreator and take advantage of some of the great programs available here in the Town!

Enjoy the beautiful Surf Club while getting some exercise! Call the Depot to let us know if you are interested in playing this year.  Improvements have been made to the courts and volunteer liaisons have offered assistance at the courts during play. Substitute players are always needed to fill vacancies!

ROSELAND COTTAGE VISIT

Roseland Cottage is a National Historic Landmark in Woodstock CT! The Cottage depicts the summer life of a prosperous family in the mid 19th century designed Gothic Revival style. The house provided a seasonal existence for Henry Chandler Bowen and his family. The entire grounds are beautifully landscaped and virtually unchanged with a boxwood parterre garden, garden house and carriage barn. (Where we will have lunch-bring a bag lunch!) The Cottage has original furniture and wall coverings- even a private bowling alley! If the weather is inclement we will re-schedule our tour for another day!  Cost: $10.00

The building was built in 1876 by William Goodspeed for his shipping and banking business and to provide a venue for his love of theatre. Goodspeed is world renowned as the home of the American Musical.
