Ad-Hoc Energy Committee Charge

The Town of Madison recognizes that energy, its consumption and cost, contributes a significant amount to the cost of operations in the town. In addition, town government has the responsibility to provide leadership to its citizens in the area of conservation and use of clean/renewable energy. In order to coordinate these efforts, an ad- hoc committee will:

  • Review current energy usage and make recommendations on methods of reducing the total net energy consumed by the town. Review the cost benefit ratio of any recommended reductions.  Any reductions shall consider the environmental impact of the recommendations and implementation costs.
  • Review the 20% by 2010 program for methods that might be used to obtain greater participation by Madison Residents.  Review financial and facility implications of any “free” clean energy equipment.  Investigate the feasibility of renewable energy generation within the town including availability of grants and other cost effective methods of funding.
  • Develop a communication plan to promote energy conservation opportunities and clean energy initiatives for citizens.
  • Review the purchasing methods used by the Town and make recommendations regarding the forward purchase of energy sources.
