Hazardous Waste

Most hazardous waste is not accepted at the bulky waste or electronics recycling sitesFor that reason the Town of Madison has, since 1990, participated in HOUSEHOLD HAZWASTE CENTRAL a joint project of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority and the South Central Regional Council of Governments. The purpose of the program is to provide a place for residents to responsibly dispose of many types of waste that cannot be taken to municipal transfer stations and landfills. The site is located at the Regional Water Authority, 90 Sargent Drive, New Haven in the Long Warf area and is open Saturdays, May through October (except holiday weeks) from 9:00 AM to Noon for residents of participating towns. Additionally, the Town of Madison hosts a satellite disposal day at Hammonasset State Park one Saturday morning at the end of September or beginning of October.  Notice will be in local papers, on this website and direct to residents via Madison Listserve. Brochures about the program are available at the Public Works information table at the Town Campus, at the Depot, and at the E. C. Scranton Library.

The Hazwaste program is set up primarily for use by homeowners, but with special arrangements small businesses can dispose of limited amounts of hazardous waste through the program. Large amounts of hazardous waste must be removed by specially licensed companies.
