Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, 2008 – About 200 visitors attended the annual Community Clam Dig. Sponsored by the Madison Shellfish Commission, the event aims to teach people how to dig for shellfish. The Shellfish Commission provided clam rakes and buckets for guests and worked with students from Daniel Hand High School to seed the beds in preparation for the event. Students seeded hard clams in the West Wharf beds, including a special bed for young people along the shore, and prepared steamer beds on Seaview Avenue. At the event, student interns worked with the younger children to teach them how to dig for shellfish in the shoreline beds.
