Health Department

The Madison Health Department along with the Water Pollution control Authority, Office of Emergency Management, Youth and Family Services, Senior Services, and Visiting Nurse Association, work together to prevent illness and promote health and safety in the Town of Madison.

The public health services provided ensure that we have water that is safe to drink, sewage systems to protect our community from diseases, clean restaurants to protect us from food-borne illnesses, clean and safe schools, and immunizations to prevent epidemics and preparation against various potential natural and man-made disasters.

This network of people, working together, forms a tailored system that serves the citizens of Madison in an effective and efficient way.

Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is one of the most common diseases in Connecticut with numerous cases every year in Madison alone. It is spread by deer ticks, and while it is most common in warm weather, the ticks can be active during warmer days at any time of year. [more info]

Spring is here! The temperature outside is climbing everyday, and adults and children are anxiously getting their bicycles, scooters and roller-blades ready to go out riding in the sunshine. Are they wearing their helmets? [more info]

Hazardous Waste

Each year the Town of Madison participates in HOUSEHOLD HAZWASTE CENTRAL located at the Regional Water Authority in New Haven. Residents of participating towns are invited to bring most hazardous wastes to the site at 90 Sargent Drive (Long Wharf exit) on Saturday mornings between 9AM and Noon. 2012 Collections begin on May 19th and continue to October 27th. Rabies is a viral infection transmitted in the saliva of infected mammals. As the weather becomes warmer and people and their pets spend more time out of doors, the risk of contact with infected wild animals becomes greater. [more info]
