The E.C. Scranton Memorial Library will close at 1 pm, Saturday, October 6 for renovation and expansion that is expected to take 18 to 24 months. The library will reopen at a temporary location, 1250 Durham Road, on the property of Madison Earth Care, in early November.
The temporary library space will include public computers, new releases, a reading room, adult and teen books, DVDs, books on CDs, an early literacy station and children’s books. There is adequate parking with an outdoor book drop. Programs will be held at offsite locations. “It will be accessible and a practical location from which to serve patrons during the expansion and renovation of Scranton Library,” according to Beth Coyne, President of the Board of Trustees of the Scranton Library. “As we settle into the space, we will evaluate to determine if there are additional services that can be offered from this location,” says Laura Downes, Interim Library Director.
We apologize for any inconvenience during this process. Requested items (holds) will not be available for pickup while the library is closed but the book drop at 801 Boston Post Road will remain open for returns until October 20. Patrons needing library services during the closure may access the online catalog at www.scrantonlibrary.org or visit neighboring libraries. Please remember Scranton Library is part of the LION sharing consortium and Madison library cardholders are welcome in all of our network libraries to borrow and return items.
