The Ad Hoc Academy Community Center Design (ACCD) Committee announces that it will hold Public Information Sessions on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Madison Senior Center and at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium at Polson Middle School.
In its April 8 report to the Board of Selectmen the Committee concluded that Academy School is indeed feasible for conversion to a community center; that the concept could be achieved with minimal structural changes with an estimated cost of just under $14 million; that the design provided by Colliers international and QA+M Architects could address many of the unmet space needs in Madison; that Academy School is well suited for use as a community center; and that a community center could provide social, recreational, educational, and commercial programming not currently available in Madison.
At the upcoming Public Information Sessions committee members, Colliers International, and QA+M Architects will present their design concept for a community center, including a breakdown of cost estimates for both construction and operational costs. Architect Tom Arcari will present his architectural renderings of the building exterior, including a plan for accessibility, and interior use of space for flexible, multi-purpose programming. Also, the Committee will draw comparisons with other community centers; and will outline their exploration into potential sources for offsets of construction and operational costs.
Opportunities will be available for members of the public to ask questions of the Committee and the professional consultants.
