[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Update - March 15, 2020

March 15, 2020

Dear Residents,

Today the Board of Selectmen unanimously adopted a Declaration of Local Civil Preparedness Emergency for the Town of Madison in response to the threat of the recent pandemic of COVID-19.  The declaration does not indicate a major change in the local situation, but rather aligns with emergency declarations already made at the state and federal levels.

Declaring a local civil-preparedness emergency gives the First Selectwoman’s office the greatest possible operational flexibility and authority to address a disaster or emergency, and allows the Town to seek available state and federal funding.

Late last week, the Town of Madison announced the closure of most Town facilities to the public, and cancelled Town-sponsored events effective March 13th through March 31st. On Friday, the Board of Education announced the closure of the Madison Public Schools starting March 16th until further notice.

Starting Monday, March 16th  and through March 31st, Town Government offices will be closed to the public, except by appointment only. Public appointment hours at Madison Town Campus will be available Monday through Thursday only from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Town staff will be working normal business hours in our closed facilities and available by email and phone.

While Town Campus will remain open on an appointment only basis, we strongly encourage residents and local businesses to conduct business with the Town electronically and through the mail.  Town staff will still be working regular hours in our closed facilities and available by email and phone. More information on how residents can access their government remotely can be found on our website under How Do I... If you are unsure of whether your business can be conducted remotely, please check the website or call the appropriate Town department.

As the situation evolves, additional changes to this schedule may be required so please monitor the town website at madisonct.org for the most up-to-date information.  While we know these actions may cause an inconvenience, we are trying to take the necessary measures to protect the health and safety of Madison residents and employees. We thank you for your understanding that departments may not be fully staffed going forward as things change.
