[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Update - April 24, 2020

COVID-19 updates

Dear Residents,

Madison currently has 66 confirmed COVID-19 infections,  a total of 5 unfortunate COVID-related deaths in our community. Our hearts are with those afflicted by this virus.  Of Madison’s positive cases, 11 reside at local skilled-nursing facilities. The town is actively monitoring the facilities to ensure they are following appropriate safety guidelines by DPH for their staff and residents. More detailed demographic information is on the Madison Health Department’s website.

In order to get back to regular governing activities, the Town has created a platform based on state directives through Zoom for Boards and Commissions to meet and conduct important business. The Board of Selectmen will meet this Monday, April 27 at 7 p.m. and the Board of Finance will meet this Wednesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. for a Public Hearing, followed by a Regular Meeting.

Residents may watch these and other Board and Commission meetings via Youtube live stream, or, join the meeting by clicking on the Zoom webinar link on the calendar event. If the Agenda includes an option for Public Comment, you may “raise your hand” and wait to be called on by the host. When you have been called on, please state your name and address for the record before making your statement. Or, you may add your comment in the Question & Answer field found at the bottom of the screen; again, stating your name and address first. Attendee microphones will be muted at all times unless you have been called on by the meeting host. The full list of procedures and a tutorial can be on the town website.

Please note that the Governor recently postponed again Connecticut’s Presidential primary from June 2nd to August 11th, which corresponds with a possible State election primary. More information on voting procedures will be forthcoming and posted on the town clerk’s website as we approach this date.

Many residents have asked about the timeline for re-opening local businesses and town operations.  Right now, the Governor’s Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group is anticipating a gradual loosening of restrictions in small steps starting in June. Town government is currently looking at what this might mean for town operations, the summer beach season, and other town functions and programs. More details will be communicated to the public once a plan has been finalized.

Have a great weekend Madison, and please stay safe, healthy and at home.
