[ARCHIVED] Weekly Message from the First Selectwoman

September 23, 2020

Dear Residents,

Over this past week Madison experienced 5 new positive cases of COVID-19. Of these, two are considered active cases in the Madison community and three are related to college students testing positive on-site at their respective residential colleges.  While we continue to see a consistent positivity rate above 1% for the state, we are not experiencing or expecting any rapid spread of infection in the near future. However, in order to maintain this status, it is critical that all our residents continue to follow state travel quarantine requirements, and adhere to all guidelines for social gatherings, social distancing and mask wearing, both indoors and outside, as well as practice frequent hand washing.

Travel Advisory
The State continues to revise its travel advisory list and quarantine policies by recently adding 5 additional states to the list, including our neighbor Rhode Island.  To get the most updated policy information, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/Travel.

Distance Learning Childcare
For Madison parents still looking to find childcare on distance learning days, the Town has partnered with the Soundview YMCA to launch a new Learning Center Camp starting next week at the Town Campus Gym https://www.madisonct.org/Y-Distance-Learning-Center.  In addition, the Friends of Madison Youth continues to offer at the Madison Arts Barn its Structured Study Center camp for children in grades 4th through 12th.  More information is available on their program at https://www.madisonartsbarn.org.

Absentee Ballots
Registered voters in Madison should have received an Application for Absentee Ballot for the November 3rd Presidential election.  If you choose to vote by Absentee Ballot, you must complete the Application and return it to the Town Clerk either by mail to 8 Campus Drive, Madison, or by placing it in the secure drop box located outside of Town Hall at the Town Campus.  Please note the drop box is located outside of the entrance located in the circle driveway (across from the gym). Please check the Town Clerk’s website for more information on completing the Absentee Ballot Application, including a list of common mistakes to avoid.   Mailing of the official ballots will begin on October 2nd and will be sent directly from the Town Clerk’s office.

Tax Payments
A final reminder from the tax collector to all Madison tax payers that the last day to pay the July 1, 2020 installment of tax on the 2019 Grand List without penalty is next Thursday, October 1, 2020.  Payments not received by October 1, will be charged 6% interest (1.5 % per month back to July 1).

And finally, I continue to urge all residents to sign up for the Town’s new communications system called Madison Alerts, which will provide important community alerts and information. A video on how to sign up is available on the town website at https://www.madisonct.org/MadisonAlerts.

Stay safe and healthy Madison.
