Henry Wilson, a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 490 Madison has placed a drop box at the Madison Town Hall to collect retired U.S. American Flags as his Eagle project. Henry has also placed drop boxes at the North Madison Fire Station, and the VFW located on Lovers Lane.
Together with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2096, Henry constructed the three U.S. Retired Flag Collection Boxes where residents can place their worn, torn, or old flags unfit for display to be collected and properly retired. He found that many residents want to respect our nation's flag but don't know how, nor do they have the proper time or resources. This leads to flags being thrown into landfills, left in puddles on the streets, or simply being disposed of without a second thought. Proper flag disposal is not publicized nor accessible enough. This is where Henry's project comes in. He has placed three drop boxes around town for the public to dispose of their U.S. flags. He will check the boxes regularly and see that they are disposed of in a private and respectful burning ceremony. Henry plans to be recognized at the end of the year.
The drop box at Town Hall is located outside the main entrance to Town Hall facing the Police Station.
