ACCREDITATION ASSESSMENT TEAM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT
Beginning Monday, December 7, 2020, a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA ©), will virtually examine all aspects of the Madison Police Department policy and procedures, management, operations and support services.
As part of the virtual assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 5:30PM. If, for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, you may do so by telephone. The public may call Assessment Team Member, Captain Kevin Schafer on December 8, 2020 between the hours of 1:00 pm and 2:00pm at 315-935-4357; and Assessment Team Leader William Pease on December 8, 2020 between the hours of 2:00PM and 3:00PM at 603-594-3605.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten (10) minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards. Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Madison Police Department’s ability to meet standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320 Gainesville, Virginia 20155.
The assessors are Mr. William Pease of the Nashua, New Hampshire Police Department, Captain Kevin Schafer of the Manlius New York Police Department and Captain Bradley Fraser of the Shelby (NC) Police Department.
In addition to accepting public comments, the assessors will review written materials, interview individuals and virtually tour offices and locations where compliance can be witnessed.
The assessors report their findings to the Commission Board, who will determine if the Madison Police Department has met the CALEA standards necessary to be awarded the prestigious recognition of reaccreditation for their delivery of law enforcement, and public safety communications, excellence. The department received its original award for Law Enforcement Accreditation in 2014 and Public Safety Communications Accreditation in 2017.
