The Madison Police Department is once again teaming up with Clinton, Guilford, Branford, North Branford, East Haven and Troop F for a diaper drive to benefit Bare Necessities, Inc. The diaper drive will from February 1-15, 2021.
According to Bare Necessities, Inc., need for diapers is an issue that has an effect on public health, employment and maternal mental health. Families need between 6 and 12 diapers per day and without enough diapers for an entire day, children cannot attend even government subsidized daycare. Failure to have sufficient diapers means that children are forced to remain in soiled diapers longer than appropriate thereby leading to diaper rash, staph infections and urinary tract infections. Additionally, not being able to provide enough diapers is listed as the #1 stressor of need affected families.
Items such as diapers and wipes are not covered under SNAP (food stamps) or WIC (Woman, infants and children). Therefore, the shoreline police departments are asking for the assistance of all of our residents in collecting these items for families in need.
