[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good evening this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s bi-weekly update.

COVID Update

Madison currently has 11 active COVID-19 cases in our community with, unfortunately, one resident hospitalized; current cases include one unvaccinated minor with limited information available on other cases.

Now that the new school year is in full swing, let’s work together to continue to reduce the number of COVID cases in our town. Please consider getting your age eligible-child vaccinated to protect our most vulnerable populations. If you or anyone you know are having difficulties getting access to the vaccine, please contact our Health Department at (203) 245-5681 for assistance in finding a vaccine clinic. The Town is actively monitoring cases in Madison and will continue to refine and adjust policies to adapt to changing circumstances.  We continue to encourage everyone to please wear a mask in any indoor public space throughout Town, including local retail stores, restaurants, churches, and other indoor settings.

September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

To honor those men and women lost 20 years ago on 9/11, and to pay tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, the Town will be holding its annual remembrance ceremony on the Town Green tomorrow, Saturday, September 11th, at 5 p.m.  This year’s ceremony will be uniquely special due to the presence of the Exchange Club’s Healing Fields 2021 exhibit of over 200 3′ x 5′ flags.  The Healing Field© is a reverent tribute which strives to unite the country in the service of others and is currently the only one in the state of Connecticut. Thank you to the Exchange Club for bringing such a moving display to our town.

Municipal Elections

The Town Clerk would like to remind residents that the 2021 Municipal Elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 2nd.  Absentee ballot applications are now available in the Town Clerk’s office and on the website. The Town Clerk’s drop box is now open to receive applications. More information on the election, absentee ballots and voting locations is available at http://www.madisonct.org/vote.

Volunteers Needed for New Committees

The Town is looking for volunteers to serve on two new ad hoc committees created by the Board of Selectmen to address use of American Rescue Plan Funds and the recent state legalization of recreational marijuana. Any registered voter in Madison interested in finding out more about these committees can visit the Town website or email rhinesl@madisonct.org. To become a member of these or other town committees, boards or commissions, please visit Application for Boards & Commissions on the town website to find out how to apply.

Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend and let’s all work together to keep our Town safe and healthy.
