[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

COVID Update

Madison currently has 20 active COVID-19 cases in our community.  We encourage anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID to get tested, regardless of vaccination status, in order to protect our most vulnerable populations. If you need to find a testing location, please visit the state of Connecticut’s website on COVID testing

Earlier this week the CDC recommended that children ages 5 to 11 years old be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine. This expands the vaccine recommendations to about 28 million children in the United States in this age group and allows providers to begin vaccinating them as soon as possible. More information on eligibility and where to get vaccinated can be found on the state’s vaccine portal.

The Madison Health Department is working with Griffin Health and Madison Public Schools to host a vaccine clinic for Madison children ages 5-11 next Friday, November 12, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Town Campus Gym. More information about this clinic can be found on the Madison Public Schools website

Public Hearing

The Charter Review Committee is holding a public hearing via zoom on November 8, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Earlier this year, this committee was established by the Board of Selectmen to review the current Town of Madison Charter, our governing document, and make recommended changes which will be submitted for a public vote in 2022. The zoom link to the meeting can be found on the Town calendar.

Community Events

Next Thursday, November 11th at 11 a.m. the Town, in coordination with local veteran’s organizations, will be holding Madison’s annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony at the Town Green Monuments. All are welcome to attend this commemoration service to honor those who have served our country in the armed services.

I am excited to announce the return this year of the Madison Jaycee’s annual Turkey Trot, after the cancellation of this in-person event last year due to COVID. The Trot is a community event for runners and walkers that brings friends and family together on Thanksgiving Day for a good cause.  For more information on how to participate in this fun activity held every year on Thanksgiving morning, please visit the Madison Jaycees at  http://madisonjc.com/events/turkey/

And finally, I want to congratulate all our newly elected town officials who will be sworn into office this Monday, November 8 at the Madison Town Campus. Thank you for your willingness to serve our community.
