[ARCHIVED] Test Kit Information

Test Kit Distribution

Good afternoon, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with updated information on the Town’s distribution of COVID tests to Madison residents

Yesterday the Town received a shipment of 2,880 single, at-home COVID tests from the state of Connecticut. The state has asked municipalities to prioritize a portion of this supply to frontline workers, including first responders, childcare workers, public/private school staff, as well as other vulnerable populations. The Town will be setting aside tests for these targeted groups and be reaching out directly to them this week to arrange delivery. In addition, the Town plans to distribute approximately 1,900 tests to Madison’s general population early this week at the Madison Surf Club.

The Town’s Emergency Management Department has created a new distribution process that allows residents to pre-register for a pick-up date and one hour time slot in advance for their household. Test kits will be distributed on a drive through basis at the Madison Surf Club this Tuesday, January 4th  and this Wednesday, January 5th from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Residents can secure a one hour pick-up time slot by registering on-line through a form on the Town website.

The online registration form for a test kit will be available on the Town website starting tomorrow morning, Monday, January 3rd  at 9:00 a.m. and will remain open until no more time slots are available.   Online registration is on a first come, first served basis and open only to Town of Madison residents aged 18 years and older with a valid street address and e-mail address. Successful registrants will receive an e-mail confirmation with a QR Code they can use when picking up their tests. Test kits will be limited to 2 per household; each kit contains one test.  We are also expecting to receive a supply of N95 masks from the state on Monday and will offer up to 4 masks per household, who are picking up a test kit, if the supply is available. A separate distribution of masks only will be scheduled for later in the week.

Do not come to the Surf Club if you have not pre-registered. In order to pick-up your test kit at your allotted time slot, you must have the e-mail confirmation/QR Code available and bring a valid ID and proof of residency, or you will be turned away. The person who registered for the test must be present in the vehicle at pick-up and show proof of ID and residency in order to receive their test kits. Proof of residency includes a driver’s license, tax bill, or car registration with a Madison address, or a 2021 Beach Sticker affixed to the vehicle.

Given we have limited quantities of test kits, please follow the Center for Disease Control recommendations for those who should be testing, including people with symptoms of COVID-19 or people who have had close contact with someone who has COVID-19. These tests are a temporary stop gap measure to stop the spread and not intended for work related surveillance testing for the unvaccinated.

Please also note that the Madison Senior Center and Youth & Family Services are working on a limited distribution of test kits to homebound seniors and other vulnerable populations. More information will be forthcoming on this program early next week.  Since there is a limited amount of testing kits at this time, residents in this category must qualify for assistance.

I want to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and safe 2022!
