[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good afternoon, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s biweekly update

COVID Update

Madison currently has 21 active cases in our community.  We continue to see a decline in community spread across the state and in our Town. In light of the recent discussions at the state regarding emergency orders, the Town is actively reviewing all COVID related policies regarding our employees and facilities and will be updating them accordingly.

February 15 Referendum

I want to remind residents that the Town will be holding a referendum this Tuesday, February 15, 2022 regarding the Madison School Renewal Plan, the Academy Community Center Proposal, and the sale of Island Avenue School.  Information on each of these projects can be found on the Town website at www.madisonct.org/referenda, including explanatory texts prepared by the Town that outlines background information about the projects. Information related to voting, polling hours and locations, and requesting an absentee ballot can be found on the Town Clerk’s website. Polls will be open this Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. District 1 residents vote at Polson Middle School located at 302 Green Hill Road. District 2 residents vote at Brown Intermediate School located at 980 Durham Rd.

Affordable Housing Survey

The Madison Ad-hoc Affordable Housing Plan Committee has launched an affordable housing survey for our Town which can be found at www.madisonct.org/AHP.  While some of our residents may have already taken a regional planning survey last fall, we ask that residents please take a few minutes to complete Madison’s local survey with questions aimed specifically at our Town’s needs.  Survey responses will be collected through February 18th.

Appointive Commission Vacancies

The Board of Selectmen is looking to fill vacancies on the newly created Ethics Commission. The Committee will consist of five (5) members and three (3) alternates, all resident electors charged with the administration of the Ethics Code. Any public member interested in working on this commission can complete the Application for Boards & Commissions no later than February 28, 2022.

Additionally, vacancies need to be filled on other Appointed Boards and Commissions. Each permanent Board or Commission has its own page on the Town website (www.madisonct.org) where interested residents can find the Charge detailing the work of the commission, as well as current open terms.   To learn how to apply for an open term please visit Applying for Boards & Commissions on the Town Website.

Economic Development News

For those businesses and commercial properties owners in Madison, the Town’s new Economic Development Director is creating a new notification list to distribute important economic development and business news to local businesses. Please www.madisonct.org/EDC to subscribe. For assistance or more information contact Sheri Cote, Economic Development Director at 203-245-5630 or cotes@madisonct.org
