[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s biweekly update

Spring 2022

As we begin to see the signs of Spring, the Town is preparing for Madison’s Annual Green Up, Clean Up Day, now scheduled for April 30, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. This great community event has been helping resolve the problem of litter on our roadsides, at our parks, and in our neighborhoods for many years. In previous years, over 400 residents and diverse civic groups have gathered together and collected up to 4 tons of litter in a 4-hour period. To register a group for this year’s event, please visit the Town website

The Town is also getting ready for the 2022 summer beach season. Please visit the Beach & Recreation website for more information on summer programming options for kids and how to register. In addition, beach pass parking stickers for the 2022 summer season are now available for purchase online, through the mail and in person. A reminder that parking stickers or daily parking passes will be required at all three Town beaches starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Please visit the Town website at www.madisonct.org/BeachStickers  for more information on pricing and ways to purchase a sticker.

2022-2023 Budget

The Board of Finance Recommended 2022-2023 Budget (PDF) is now available on the Town website. The Board of Finance will be holding a Public Hearing on April 25, 2022 for taxpayers to provide public comment on the proposed Budget. Details on how to attend the Public Hearing in person or remotely are available on the Town calendar. The Annual Budget Referendum will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Absentee ballot applications for the Budget Referendum are now available through the Town Clerk’s office at 203-245-5672; or by visiting the Town Clerk’s webpage www.madisonct.org/vote

Building Committees

The Board of Selectmen will be accepting applications for committees relating to the Academy Community Center Project from April 6th through April 29th. The Board will be establishing two committees with distinct charges. Please visit the town website to learn more about the two committees and complete an application. If you have already submitted an application for the Academy project, the Town will hold them for review when the committee charges have been finalized.

Street Sign Theft

After a rash of street sign thefts last year, the Town has seen a recent resurgence of sign vandalism and/or theft throughout various neighborhoods in Madison. If your street sign is missing, please notify the Public Works Department at (203) 245-5611. If you have any specific information relating to the thefts, including possible footage from security cameras, please contact the Madison Police Department at (203) 245-6502. We also ask you to be patient as replacement signs take time to order and reinstall.

Have a great weekend Madison!
