[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s biweekly update

COVID Update

The state along with the nation is once again seeing a rise in cases as a result of a new COVD variant. The Town has also seen this uptick, including a rise in cases in our schools. We encourage eligible residents that are vaccinated to get a booster shot and take other precautionary measures. The Town is actively monitoring cases in Madison and will continue to refine and adjust policies to adapt to changing circumstances.

Beach & Recreation News

Office Relocation

Please take notice that the Beach & Recreation Department will be relocating its main office from the Madison Town Campus to the Surf Club Building effective April 25th. All in-person departmental services will now be administered through the Surf Club office. Beach & Rec’s Town Campus offices will be repurposed for other Town services. The most up-to-date department hours and other information are available on the Town website. Please note that during the beach pass season, residents can still visit the Surf Club office even if they do not have a beach parking sticker.

Beach Parking Stickers

Beach pass parking stickers for the 2022 summer season are now available for purchase online, through the mail and in person. A reminder that parking stickers or daily parking passes will be required at all three Town beaches starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Please visit the Town website at www.madisonct.org/BeachStickers  for more information on pricing and ways to purchase a sticker.

Green Up, Clean Up Day

And Madison’s Annual Green Up, Clean Up Day, is scheduled for April 30, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. This great community event has been helping resolve the problem of litter on our roadsides, at our parks, and in our neighborhoods for many years. In previous years, over 400 residents and diverse civic groups have gathered together and collected up to 4 tons of litter in a 4-hour period. To register a group for this year’s event, please visit the Town website.

Pilot Social Outreach Program

Between April and May of 2022, the Madison Police Department will have social work services available to ALL Madison residents through a pilot program facilitated through Madison Youth and Family Services. The social worker may reach out to residents as follow up to a police report, for the purposes of offering further support and assistance to help connect people with any needed programs and services.  In the short term, this pilot is will enable more immediate outreach to residents following an encounter with the police, and the experience of running the program will help the town to develop capacity for this type of service on a more permanent basis.  Please note that any outreach from the social worker is separate from the police report, and is offered as a free, voluntary and confidential consultation.  For more information please visit the Madison Youth and Family webpage, or contact MYFS or MPD.

2022-2023 Budget

The Board of Finance is holding a Public Hearing on the 2022-2023 Budget on Monday, April 25, 2022 for taxpayers to provide public comment on the proposed Budget. Details on how to attend the Public Hearing in person or remotely are available on the Town calendar. The Annual Budget Referendum will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Absentee ballot applications for the Budget Referendum are now available through the Town Clerk’s office at 203-245-5672; or by visiting the Town Clerk’s webpage

Building Committees

The Board of Selectmen is accepting applications for committees relating to the Academy Community Center Project through April 29th. The Board has established two committees with distinct charges: the Academy Building Committee and the Academy Advisory Committee. Please visit the town website to learn more about the two committees and complete an application.

Next week is spring break for Madison Public Schools and many residents are beginning to celebrate the Easter holiday weekend. I hope everyone is able to enjoy this time of reflection and renewal as well as spend quality time with family and friends during this warm spring weather.  Have a great holiday weekend Madison!
