First Selectwoman’s Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

As we wind down the last days of August, I want to remind residents that this upcoming week is the last week of our summer season at our Town beaches. As many of our summer staff have already begun to return to school, the Town can no longer fully staff our beach facilities, including lifeguards. Please be mindful when attending our beaches, especially with children, that lifeguards will not be on duty. However, we will continue to have patrol and gate monitors in place through Labor Day. After Labor Day weekend, we will no longer be staffing gate guards and sporting activities will start to ramp up at the Surf Club and other athletic fields around town.

This Sunday, August 28th, Madison’s Beach & Recreation will be welcoming Eddie Seville at 6:00 p.m., to its weekly Summer Concert series on the Town Green. This will be the last Summer Concert of the 2022 season. Please visit the website at www.madisonct.org/concerts for more detailed information.

The Salt Meadow Concert Series is holding its last concert for 2022 at Salt Meadow Park on September 2nd at 5 pm. Please visit the Salt Meadow Park webpage for more information.

Back to School

Please note that this Monday, August 29, 2022 marks the start of the school year for children enrolled in Madison Public Schools. I want to wish our teachers, administrators, parents, and most importantly our students, a healthy and successful school re-opening for this academic year.  Please be mindful that school buses will be running daily on their regular routes starting Monday, which is likely to lead to an extended period of high-volume traffic around all five schools. Avoid travel in these areas when possible. For more information, visit www.madison.k12.ct.us/backtoschool

Proposed Charter Revisions on the Ballot for November Election

This past Monday, August 22nd the Board of Selectmen voted to place questions regarding proposed amendments to the Town Charter on the ballot in conjunction with the November 8th Statewide Election. The Town Charter is the basic document that defines the organization, powers, functions, and essential procedures of Madison’s Town government.  The proposed amendments to the Charter were recently approved by the Board of Selectmen and are based on recommendations made by a Charter Review Commission after an 18-months long public review process. Information summarizing the proposed revisions to the Charter will be available on the Town website in September. Please take the time to learn more about these important proposed revisions.

Absentee Ballot Applications Available

The Town Clerk would like to remind residents that the 2022 State Elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 8th.  Although Absentee Ballots are not available until October 7th, you can obtain an Absentee Ballot Application now in the Town Clerk’s office or from the website. The Town Clerk’s drop box is now open to receive applications. More information on the election, absentee ballots and voting locations is available at http://www.madisonct.org/vote

Madison Salutes Our Heroes in 2022

I’d like to highlight that the Madison Exchange will be sponsoring a Madison Salutes Our Heroes flag display on the Town Green starting on September 2nd through September 16th. Similar to last year’s flag display, there will be 300 full-sized American flags displayed to fill a large portion of the Green. Flags will be individually dedicated to honor Victims of 9/11, Military, First Responders, Covid Heroes, Canine Heroes, Everyday Heroes, and for Child Abuse Prevention.

For more detailed information on the event and how to purchase a flag, please visit www.madisonexchange.org/flags. The Opening Ceremony will be Friday, September 2nd at 5:00 p.m.

September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

To honor those men and women lost 21 years ago on 9/11, and to pay tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, the Town will be holding its annual remembrance ceremony on the Town Green on Sunday, September 11th, at 5 p.m.  All are welcome to attend.

Broadband Survey

The Town is partnering with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) to promote the 2022 CCM Broadband Connectivity Survey. Your input will help guide federal investments in more reliable internet access for Connecticut’s residents, including Madison. Please complete this very brief survey from your home network today.

Have a great weekend Madison!
